WEED-IT, just when you thought you were off the hook - Part 11.
#Note graphics heavy, you may need to view on PC/laptop
On Thursday this week, one of my readers regarding overlapping nozzle rates on his vintage WEED-IT asked;
Hi Dave,
Run a Weed-It as a spot sprayer only. Earlier type with 20cm spacing. None of this stuff applies to us?. We are 120L/Ha at 14kms with straight 40 deg nozzles. If it turns on 2 nozzles it is really getting 240 L/ha?
Well I wasn't sure of the exact numbers so on Friday we did a full make over of our app for WEED-IT customers to include what I will call 'vintage WEED-IT's' just so I could explain things better when I gave the 'yes' answer to his enquiry.
We split our App into WEED-IT (vintage) and WEED-IT Quadro. Here is what our enquirers numbers look like with his O3 Even Fan. The result is 117 l/ha, close enough to his 120 l/ha. So things match up so far.
#Note the Spray width rate equals the even fan rate. i.e. volume distributed evenly across the full footprint.

Now lets introduce the overlapping rates, Turns out that the overlapping rate for his 03 evens exceeds his shocking expectations at 257 l/ha.

Now let's introduce the Target Zone factor, you know, where we measure and calibrate for the fat bit in the middle of the nozzle.
#Note that a weed in the taper zone of a nozzle, is in the target zone of its adjacent nozzle(s).

The Target Zone rate, now appears under the Spray Width (or even fan) rate.

So, compared to the 03 even fan, our CFLD-XC4002 is delivering 110 l/ha on the target weed and at the same time reducing the waste due to overlapping from 257 l/ha to only 177 l/ha. A 31.2% reduction in waste and water savings or better said as a 45% improvement in efficiency while still delivering the correct rate on target.
So thanks to our reader, I'm not so much registering a complaint as making an observation that there is an opportunity to do things better now that we have better analysis tools ( the App) and more efficient purpose designed nozzles to work with.
Of course this is not an issue affecting current WEED-IT Quadro customers of Fantastic Nozzles, and I do apologise for he click bait, because they use tapered fan nozzle exclusively for single spot applications and are already one step ahead.
Since I've so busy writing stuff lately, I've forgotten that I have to actually sell nozzles to pay for all the App development, so here is an actual offer!
So for everyone with a classic old style trailed WEED-IT with the standard (pretty long in the tooth) old metal even 40-03' fans, you can vastly improve your sprayers performance, minimise all of that overlapping excess and conserve your water resources by simply fitting a new set of CFLD-XC4002's.

I'll even sweeten the pot by offering you a 7.5% DISCOUNT by using the
Promo Code 1800920312
when you purchase these online until the end of March.
Yes, that's our new phone number too. It will help you to remember it!
As usual, if any questions arise, please call me anytime.
